The EP ‘Tiny Moth’ exudes the sensation of not being meticulously crafted but rather instinctively spilled from something authentic. Doug Rimington drew inspiration from the most unexpected sources, including a miniature rescue cat and an emerging fascination with warm, crunchy valve amp sounds. This flash of inspiration ignited, blossoming into a thunderous yet emotive debut featuring the captivating vocals of Jess Lambert. From the very beginning, it becomes evident that there is a profound symbiosis between sound and emotion, each element lending an organic quality to the other. The electrifying raw guitar sounds, live drums, and rich textures created with analogue pedals are hypnotizing. Each song envelops the listener, as if stepping into an improvised sanctuary where everything is crafted with love and instinct.

The first song, “Look At Me”, wastes no time getting in your face and starts blasting. At the same time, it leaves a tinge of sweet sorrow in the air. Jess’s voice is serrated one moment and whispery the next, as if caught in an intimate confessional against a backdrop of a brewing storm. Track two, “Break Down The Walls”, follows suit, pummeling yet vulnerably allowing for its emotion to set the pace. Lyrics are sharp and hit bone-deep, which verges on too personal, akin to eavesdropping on a diary reading. “Your Rage” takes it even further, a dark dive with a performance by Jess that swells between spectral tranquility and harrowing wails. It is a performance that encapsulates Doug and Jess’s intuitive synergy so well.

The “Interlude” instrumental track breaks things up, serving as a brief reprieve before the end. The title track “Tiny Moth” closes the EP, being its longest track. It could be considered the centerpiece, swelling and blossoming, leaving all its elements–drums, synths, guitars, and vocals–to combust in a victorious exclamation. In its entirety, the EP ‘Tiny Moth’ is a ferocious and raw introduction to a partnership with plenty of room to mature and grow, and a story to tell. This isn’t just metal, prog, or alternative, but noisy music, alive with human emotion.
