Green Day thrilled fans on the second day of the When We Were Young festival by debuting “Look Ma, No Brains,” a new track from their upcoming album, during their closing set. The punk rock legends, led by Billie Joe Armstrong, proved that despite three decades in the industry, they’ve lost none of the angst that made them famous in the early ’90s. The song’s rousing energy and rebellious lyrics, like “I said look ma, I ain’t got no brains / I’m a goner and I don’t feel no pain,” reminded the audience of Green Day’s enduring edge.

A few fortunate fans managed to snag early access to “Look Ma, No Brains” through a limited-edition vinyl sold at the festival. This release also featured “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” which Armstrong introduced as the first track from their forthcoming album during an intimate pop-up show in Las Vegas. Although the band has yet to announce the album’s title or release date, these songs offer a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come. Green Day’s performance at the festival was just the beginning, as they prepare for a major 2024 tour alongside Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas. While details about the album and tour remain under wraps, fans in the U.S. can look forward to kicking things off, with a promise to U.K. and European fans: “You’re next.”
