‘Raindance’ is something between a personal letter and music placed on top of sound. On July 11, 2025, the fourth studio album from Odelet was released. Odelet and her production company Everlasting Tape have fully recorded the album analog, with mixing by Larry Crane. Odelet has complete creative control and plays the majority of the instruments, with the most noticeable elements on the album being Odelet’s singing and lyrics. The album ‘Raindance’ resists any attempts to describe its structure in particular. It freely traverses R&B, soul, experimental, and Odelet itself. The recording is raw but calculated, and it really sounds like the work of an artist who is not going to pretend to be someone else. Surrealist R&B, as Odelet herself called her music, is not a fashion that will be followed by many others. But this does not matter, because ‘Raindance’ is really a very individual work that is fascinating from beginning to end. Raindance in Dub will accompany the release of ‘Raindance’, an album of remixes in warm, slightly psychedelic 70s dub style.

“Know It All” opens with some whispering confidence. “Dirge” moves slowly, as if every word sinks into the depths of memory. “Be Still” is a nearly minimalist piece in which a long pause between the phrases seems to be just as important as the sound itself. The title track “Raindance” is more intense but still in quiet mode. Layered vocal lines, a slightly swinging rhythm section, and a bit of echo – you will want to unscramble the lyrics from the reverb. “Jezebel” is more aggressive, the rhythm section is pressing, but Odelet’s voice remains as smooth and calm as ever. “Bayou” is swampy and soulful, as if the sun is setting in an abandoned town. “Think It Over” returns to the languor, gliding on cloud-like keys and lingering gentle harmonies.
In the last third of the album, Odelet decided to bring some lightness into the lives of her listeners. “Up Up and Away” as if contrasted with the preceding tracks as if after them you have to catch your breath. The drastic change is offered by the composition “Wake Up Call”. Emotional, moody, and more contemplative. Thoughtful lines that do not need to scream to be heard. The record ends with the timeless and slightly brittle “Sands of Time”, as if it would not survive after you play it for the twentieth time. Odelet on ‘Raindance’ took bold and independent steps, so it is not surprising that the artist is already drawing new paths deeper into the future.
